Dr. Mom Foundation is dedicated to the memory of two Minnesotan physicians who died by suicide.

We share resources, education, advocacy, networking, and funding to support the wellbeing and careers of “mama docs” who juggle many roles every day.

Dr. Gretchen Wenner Butler and Dr. Radhika Lal Snyder loved their families, their communities, their patients, and their work as healers. Although mental health crises ended their physical journeys with us, the love and joy they brought to every day live on. Caregivers need care too, and all families deserve to thrive.

Dr. Mom Resource List

Dr. Mom Foundation wants women physicians and health care workers to know you are not alone.

Healthcare workers, are you:

  • a mother?

  • an expectant mother?

  • a mother experiencing a loss or a health crisis?

If so, here is a list of resources, both educational and programmatic. But this is an evolving list.

Help us add to it, especially if you are a Mama Doc or health care provider. Please share resources you’ve found helpful as we build this interdependent network!

Goals of the Dr. Mom Foundation:

  • To identify resources that will have an impact on the health and career satisfaction of female physicians;

  • To serve as advocates for maternal physician mental health;

  • To provide educational resources to assist maternal physicians in managing motherhood with the burdens of the medical profession;

  • To encourage financial support, both public and private, for maternal physician physical health and mental health resources and programs;

  • To promote changes in workplace policies and behaviors to improve the healthcare profession and the health of female physician mothers;

  • To advance female physician mothers as leaders in health professions and increase awareness of the particular role working maternal physicians play in our health care system.

  • To promote changes in public policies and funding mechanisms to improve the health outcomes of families, broadly and inclusively defined, because they are our families.

Losing even one physician has ripple effects, not just in their family and community, but also through all the patients’ lives they could have improved. We all have a stake in a healthier future for all Dr. Moms.
